Alan Nelson

As co-head of CRA's Internal Communication Consulting practice, Alan Nelson advises management on the role and use of communication in addressing corporate challenges or opportunities. His focus is internal communication—communication within the boundaries of the organization and its governance structure—and he specializes in the communication of C-suite executives to internal audiences. His recent clients include Carlson, Capital One, Cargill, IBM, McDonald's, and Merrill Lynch.

A frequent speaker on internal and leadership communication, Alan's perspectives have been published in the New York Times, Fast Company, Representative American Speeches, Reputation Management: The Key to Successful Public Relations and Corporate Communication, and the forthcoming book Leadership Without Excuses. He has also served as a guest lecturer at the Eccles School of Business at the University of Utah, and is an Adjunct Instructor at the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame.

Alan has degrees in Speech Communication and Political Science from the University of Utah. A native of Salt Lake City, he is also founder of The Minnesuing Group, an invitation-only peer group for senior communication officers.

Alan lives outside Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with his wife Katherine. His hobbies include distance running, astronomy, photography, and the deserts of South-Central Utah.
